Indian State Uses Polygon to Issue 65,000 Caste Certificates
According to Kashif Raza, the Maharashtra government has issued over 65,000 caste certificates on the Polygon network, demonstrating the utility of blockchain. Maharashtra is one of India’s most industrialized states, and a caste certificate is documentary proof that a person belongs to a specific caste as defined by the Indian Constitution.
This isn’t the first time the Polygon blockchain has been used for government purposes. Polygon had previously announced that it had been chosen as the official blockchain platform of the Swiss city of Lugano.
Polygon will assist the city of Lugano in developing its blockchain infrastructure. In a widely publicized crypto adoption, the city of Lugano in Switzerland’s Ticino canton declared Bitcoin and Tether to be “de facto” legal tender.
“MakeMyTrip,” one of India’s largest online travel companies, has recently launched its own travel-themed NFT collection on Polygon-powered ngageNFT. Polygon has seen an influx of global brands launch NFT drops on its blockchain since late 2021.
Earlier this month, the Polygon PoS chain went down due to a problem with the Heimdall chain’s state-sync mechanism. In an attempt to fix it, a series of software releases and a second bug resulted in the shutdown of both services. The team released multiple updates over the course of several days and collaborated closely with all stakeholders in a coordinated rollout of the changes. According to the report, there was no loss of user funds or data.
The Polygon team is continuing to work on Heimdall to make it more robust by adding a dynamic transaction gas limit, increasing the block gas limit, and adding bulk state-sync transactions.
It goes on to say that a long-term redesign of the Heimdall/Bor architecture is in the works, which will loosen the tight coupling between the bridge mechanism and the chain’s consensus and core system.
This will be implemented in the chain’s next version, tentatively codenamed v3, which will merge the Heimdall and Bor nodes and chain and eliminate the span mechanism.
