The case began when investigators learned in October 2013 information about several illegal websites linked to White that allowed subscribers to pay to stream and download copyrighted content. The Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) asked White to stop his illegal activities in 2014, but he ignored the request.
White then repeatedly moved the activity from one website to another to avoid detection. In 2018, he raised millions in registration fees on his websites.
The DOJ stated that investigators issued a search warrant in November 2018 and confiscated White’s Newport home and several bank accounts:
“Agents confiscated $ 3.9 million from his account, $ 35,000 in cash and over $ 1 million in crypto.”
Additionally, the DOJ found that White “reported less than $ 4.4 million in income taxes and caused more than $ 1.7 million in tax losses to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).
White was charged with copyright infringement and tax evasion on November 1, 2019. On November 25, 2019, he pleaded guilty to both charges. In the end, White was held in the house for 12 months and 1 day of probation.
