Charges against 16 defendants
On June 5, 2021, the Criminal Investigation Department of the Ministry of Public Security announced that it had completed its investigation and proposed that the Supreme People’s Procuratorate prosecute Ho Ngoc Tai, Tran Ngoc Hoang and 14 other defendants for robbery.
Among the 16 accused are Nguyen Quoc Dung and Nguyen Anh Tuan, former Ho Chi Minh City police officers.
According to the investigative agency, Tai, Hoang and Mr. Nguyen (the victim in the case, 33 years old, resident of Ho Chi Minh City) participated in Bitcoin investments in 2016 and therefore knew each other. Two years later, the crypto business lost money.
Believing that Mr. Nguyen is an investment-minded person leading to losses, Tai and Hoang asked Mr. Nguyen to return them 1,000 bitcoins at a loss, but the victim refused.
