The most common type of patents, which make up more than half of them, are fintech applications. This includes cryptocurrency exchanges or storage applications. Other popular categories are patents for decentralized business platforms, solutions implemented on blockchain, business services with a financial and health component, and banking services.
Blockchain-related patents are an indicator of a country’s blockchain dominance. Unfortunately, Synthetic Team does not yet have any blockchain-related patents, although the proportion of PhD professors is higher than that of its northern neighbor.
