Kraken Hires Gemini’s Head Of UK Operations To Oversee Its UK Operations

The UK is a crucial market for the cryptocurrency exchange Kraken, therefore it has hired Blair Halliday, the former head of UK for Gemini, to handle its own operations there.

According to a press release, Halliday will concentrate on extending the exchange’s reach in the area. Prior to joining Gemini, Halliday had compliance positions at Circle, ICE, and JPMorgan. He worked at NatWest for 14 years prior to those positions.

Curtis Ting will now take on a more general responsibility for several locations.

Kraken intends to add to its operations, legal, and compliance teams

It also intends to develop into a platform for trading NFTs (something that other exchanges have struggled with when it comes to attracting market share).

Just a few weeks prior, Jesse Powell resigned and was succeeded as CEO by former COO David Ripley.

By trading volume, the UK is one of Kraken’s major markets. The decline of the pound has also helped trading generally against the pound on cryptocurrency exchanges in recent weeks.

350 of Kraken’s 3,300 employees are located in the UK. More than 10 million dealers and institutions are claimed.
