Blockchain.com to offer “.blockchain” domain names to users

Blockchain.com users wait to receive free “.blockchain” domain names as announced by Unstoppable Domains.

According to the Unstoppable Domains announcement, all 82 million registered Blockchain.com users will be able to receive the blockchain domain name from the company’s wallet service for free. These domains will allow users to trade cryptocurrencies using human-readable addresses instead of the default long-chain alphanumeric wallet addresses.

People can read addresses similar to social logins and make crypto transactions more accessible to people who may have difficulty with an alphanumeric wallet address.

Unstoppable Domains says it has already assigned over 2 million NFT domains, most of them tied to the suffixes “.crypto,” “.wallet,” and “.nft.” The Blockchain.com giveaway entails a new suffix – “.blockchain”— that the companies are framing as the first branded domain name in Web3. However, most people will likely view the .blockchain domain as referring to the common noun rather than the London-based company.

“With Unstoppable Domains, users can secure NFT domains that give them full ownership and control of their digital identity,” Unstoppable Domains said in a statement. “They also provide a user-owned, secure, and portable Web3 identifier users can use to log into and transact with more than 200 apps, wallets, exchanges, marketplaces, games, and the metaverse.”

Blockchain.com users can customize their domains or purchase more through the unstoppable Domain Name service. Each domain from the platform is an NFT created on Polygon, an Ethereum Layer-2 network.

Unstoppable Domains has previously partnered with the giant Coinbase broker to provide “.crypto” domain names to later wallet users.
