Jack Dorsey and Jay-Z open the Bitcoin Academy In Brooklyn

Jack Dorsey, co-founder of Twitter and CEO of Block, is partnering up with artist and entrepreneur Jay-Z to develop ‘The Bitcoin Academy’ at Marcy Houses, the public housing complex where the rapper grew up in Brooklyn, New York.

Using Bitcoin to empower

Bitcoin Academy, according to its website, intends to give education, empower the community with knowledge, and remove some of the hurdles to citizens learning more about Bitcoin in particular and finance in general. Lamar Wilson, the founder of Black Bitcoin Billionaire, and Najah J. Roberts, the founder of the first African American and woman-owned crypto exchange and education center in the United States, will teach the course.

From June to September, classes will be free and available online or in person, with in-person classes taking place two evenings each week. Participants will receive smartphones and MiFi devices, as well as a one-year restricted data plan, as part of the program.

While the program is currently focused solely on Marcy Houses, it has aspirations to extend to other New York areas in the future. On weekends, a “Crypto Kids Camp” will be accessible for residents aged 5 to 17.

The Jay-Z, Jack Dorsey Connection

JAY-Z, who has a CryptoPunk as his Twitter profile photo (PFP), said on Twitter that the academy’s purpose is to give people the tools they need to establish independence for themselves and their communities.

Jack Dorsey turned to Twitter to express his thoughts on the new business.

This isn’t the first time Jay-Z and Dorsey have worked together. Jack Dorsey’s Block purchased Jay-Tidal Z’s music streaming business in 2021, creating a new platform for artists to develop and get compensated. Last year, the two also made a 500 BTC investment jointly, with the goal of growing the cryptocurrency’s appeal in India and Africa. As a result, the duo can be regarded to have been in the forefront of bringing cryptocurrencies to the masses.
