Irreverent Labs raises $40M for MechaFightClub
Irreverent Labs has raised $40 million to further boost its efforts to create MechaFightClub, a robot cock fighting game that uses NFTs. MechaFightClub was just released by the Seattle-based blockchain game startup, founded by Voodoo PC founder Rahul Sood.
The $40 million in additional funding was revealed in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, but the specifics have yet to be revealed.
The chickens of MechaFightClub are mechabots with NFTs that use the blockchain to verify each chicken’s uniqueness. The game is a “play-to-earn” title, meaning that players may own the characters they purchase and profit from them if they can resell them once they’ve leveled up.
The game takes place in a dystopian future when extraterrestrial mechabots rule. When the 41,000 surviving chicken-shaped mechabots are hacked by a worldwide resistance, they are redistributed to the general population as “weapons of mass entertainment.”
It takes place in 2065, when extraterrestrials make contact with Earth for the first time. They decided that mankind was finally worthy of joining the galaxy’s interstellar species. The aliens suddenly realized they had severely underestimated humans. They left and left Earth behind. They did, however, leave behind some technology for humanity to find out.
“To me, artificially intelligent entertainment being created is super interesting,” Rahul Sood said. “I think this is where gaming is going. And no one else has done this yet. We’re going to be the first to do it.”
According to Sood, the mix of smart AI characters, spectator options, and kaiju-inspired 3D art will turn MechaFightClub into the metaverse’s largest fight club. The game will be published later this year on the Solana blockchain.
