According to Jay Chou Instagram’s account, the Taiwanese pop singer’s BAYC NFT had been stolen after falling victim to a phishing scam. The Jay Chou NFT has is worth $550,000. The NFT had been given to him by famous Taiwanese artist Jeffrey Hwang (aka Machi Big Brother). He also lost an NFT from Mutant Ape Yacht Club as well as two NFTs from the Doodles.
Chou says that he first thought the incident for an April Fool’s joke before realizing that he no longer had access to his valuable NFTs. According to on-chain investigator @zachxbt, scammers buy verified Twitter accounts for a few thousand dollars and use them to launch giveaway scams. Scammers typically utilize bots to trick people into clicking links that lead to a phishing site and steal their NFTs.
Other popular social media platforms, such as Instagram, are being used by scammers to find potential victims. It may take only a one-second judgment lapse before one parts ways with his or her assets forever. Hackers broke into an official Discord server owned by Bored Ape Yacht Club earlier today. In its tweet, the official Twitter warned that it was not doing any April Fools airdrops, confirming the hack.
According to blockchain security firm PeckShield, the hacker managed to successfully steal a Mutant Ape NFT after posting a fake link to a fake mint on one of the server’s channels. Be aware of this link https://mintboredapeyc[.com]
