Opera’s Crypto Browser to Support Solana, Polygon, StarkEx in Web 3 Push
In a staggered implementation across its applications and online browsers, Opera expects to introduce in-browser crypto wallet compatibility for eight more blockchains.
Ethereum will be joined by Solana, Polygon, StarkEx, Ronin, Celo, Nervos, IXO, and Bitcoin, according to the Norwegian business. Susie Batt, the Crypto Ecosystem Lead, said that the company’s desktop crypto browser can currently access Polygon and will “soon” integrate with the rest of the ecosystem. On Android, they’re all accessible, but there’s no timeframe on iOS.
Opera isn’t the only crypto-focused browser anticipating a surge in Web 3 users. Brave has also included a built-in cryptocurrency wallet, with ambitions to provide support for other blockchains in the future. These initiatives would allow their customers to interact with a wider range of decentralized finance (DeFi) ecosystems, including layer 2 chains.
Batt said in an email:
“Providing environmentally-conscious solutions for our users is a key mission for Opera and moving activity on to layer 2 goes a long way to minimizing users’ carbon footprint. We see this as the potential missing block from the mass adoption of Web 3.”
Since 2018, Opera, one of the first web browsers, has been developing crypto services for its 350 million users. In January, it published a beta version of its specialized “Crypto Browser Project.”
“Web3 requires a Web 2 makeover, both in terms of user interface and user experience, in order to appeal to mainstream audiences.” “That’s where Opera shines,” Batt remarked.
