Crypto Scam: Indian Couple Dupes Bitcoin Investor Promising Higher Returns Lost $27,000

According to the First Information Report (FIR) filed with the police, Harshad Patel was introduced to an Indian Couple by his friend and business partner Kamlesh Patel in 2017 to help him in investing in bitcoin. Alpesh Suhagia and his wife Bharti Suhagia tried to convince Harshad to invest in BTC, claiming that the price had risen to Rs. 70,000 in 2017 from Rs. 10 in 2009. This prompted Harshad to give the Suhagia couple Rs 15 lakh (approximately $19,000) to invest in bitcoin on his behalf.

Harshad was told that this bitcoin wallet would take some time to complete. Meanwhile, the Suhagias introduced Harshad to Prashant Brahmbhatt, who persuaded him to transfer his investments to Senar Wallet, a cryptocurrency investment plan.

Harshad received Rs 1.24 lakh (approximately $1,700) as a return on his investments between July and August 2017 after transferring the money to Senar Wallet. Despite repeated requests, he did not receive any additional returns on his assets or the principal amount, triggering him to file a complaint with the police in March 2022.

The general public’s lack of understanding of cryptocurrencies and how to invest in them safely is leading to an increase in the number of frauds. Please do your own research before investing in something. Be aware!
