North Korea Launches A Crypto Rocket Towards The United States, Dubbing It the “King of Theft.”
North Korea condemned the US on Thursday for stealing assets and engaging in unethical hacking, just days after the UN accused Pyongyang of launching cyberattacks on cryptocurrency exchanges around the world.
Although the UN inspectors did not expressly mention the US, they claimed that the information was received from a “member nation,” and they also mentioned data collected by the American firm Chainalysis on suspected North Korean crypto raids.
According to the South Korean news site EDaily, the North Korean foreign ministry denied recent UN monitors’ claims that North Korean hackers stole more than $50 million between 2020 and mid-2021.
According to a study from last year, North Korea stole $1.8 billion in cryptocurrency from different exchanges across the world.
Kommersant stated in 2020 that a cyber group known as “Kimsuky” exploited the COVID-19 pandemic by utilizing so-called spear-phishing tactics to obtain top-secret material from Russian defense businesses.
According to security company Ahn Labs, Kumsuki has also been connected to an attack that exploits infected Microsoft Word documents.
The North Korean ministry said that charges of crypto theft were a “assault” on the country’s “sovereignty,” noting examples of “disgusting behavior” that the ministry would not tolerate.
It went on to say that Washington is exploiting humanity’s common virtual ground to “achieve its hegemony objectives.”
Pyongyang also stated that the admissions of former American computer intelligence specialist Edward Snowden, who disclosed that US security organizations spied on their own citizens, supported all of this.
The country describes the US as a “hacking king, a wiretapping regime, and an expert in covert theft.”
Meanwhile, Pyongyang is thought to be dissatisfied with keeping its crypto hoard indefinitely, with South Korean specialists stating that the ultimate hurdle for North Korean hackers is selling off their stolen cryptoassets.
