Samsung Enters The Metaverse

Samsung Electronics America plans to enter the metaverse via a new partnership with Decentraland ($MANA). The business plans to construct a virtual duplicate of its flagship 837 physical shop in the digital realm.

The actual store is located in New York City at 837 Washington Street. The virtual store, branded Samsung 837X, will be open for a short period in the Decentraland metaverse.

According to the news site, this is “one of the largest brand land takeovers in the history of Decentraland.” The virtual shop will provide digital adventures via a “connectivity theatre and sustainable forest,” as well as a musical celebration.

The connection theatre will feature Samsung’s announcements from the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), which runs from January 5 to January 8, while the sustainability forest will allow visitors to experience “millions of digital trees.”

Notably, Samsung is going to “get exposure to Cardano” through a new reforestation program created in collaboration with veritree. The Cardano-powered platform will oversee the tree-planting campaign using blockchain technology.

According to a Samsung official post, the company’s objective with veritree’s assistance is to plant two million trees in Madagascar by the end of the first quarter of this year. According to Mark Newton, Head of Corporate Sustainability at Samsung Electronics America:

“Samsung is set to work with on-the-ground experts from Eden Reforestation Projects and community members to plant the trees, which are expected to restore roughly 200 hectares of land and sequester roughly one billion pounds of CO2 over a 25-year period.”

Quests leading to 837X non-fungible token badges and limited-supply wearables will also be available in the company’s virtual Decentraland shop. The store will only be available for a short period of time, but the firm “plans to bring more such experiences throughout the year.”
