Web3 Art Platform Wild Raises $7 Million Seed Round Led By Matrix Partners

Wild, a digital art platform, said Thursday that it had secured $7 million in early investment to develop its residency program and community around non-fungible token (NFT) art.
Matrix Partners led the round, which was joined by notable investors and advisors from top-tier venture capitalists and well-known figures in Silicon Valley, Web3, and Hollywood, including LinkedIn Founder Reid Hoffman; Academy Award Winner and Investor Gwyneth Paltrow; COO & CFO at Google’s X, the moonshot factory, Helen Riley; CEO & Founder, Metatheory and former Twitch, Kevin Lin; President of the Philadelphia 76ers, Daryl Morey;
Wildxyz is advised by NFT artists Emily Yang (pplpleasr), Holly Herndon and Mat Dryhurst, as well as prominent NFT collector JDH, in addition to its dynamic array of investors.
Wild intends to use the funds to expand its hyper-curatorial residency program, which brings in artists in seasons to produce work for its home market. Wild’s CEO and founder, Douglass Kobs, stated:
“Web3 is upon us and here to stay. We believe the future of the internet is spatial, and people are going to spend more and more of their time in immersive, digital spaces. The world’s best experiences – online and offline – are created by artists, so we wanted to build a more creative, trusted platform where global makers can showcase immersive art that will transform how we spend our time online.”
Wild is a platform for the advancement of creative expression, with access to the ecosystem, which includes an artist’s residence and a curated venue for an immersive art and property drops.
It began Season 0 in November 2022 as a 12-week program and its first Season 0 launches on January 23.
Hideo, Mitchel F. Chan, Aluna, Sasha Belitskaja, and Auguste Wibo are among the known and new artists in the Season 0 artist cohort.
The investment will be used to expand the startup’s residency and invest in infrastructure to support its experience art. Several of Wild’s collections are accessible via in-browser experiences that do not need the use of a wallet.
Wild will continue to produce Season 0 collections, introduce Season 1 artists, welcome new collectors via Wild Oasis, and increase offerings on the Wild platform in the coming months.
