Li.Fi Urged Uniswap V3 Not To Launch On The BNB Chain With Only Bridge Provider

Key Points:

  • The Uniswap community has been warned by Li.Fi is not to deploy on the BNB Chain with just one bridge provider.
  • Li.Fi requested Uniswap to prioritize the development of a methodology for evaluating cross-chain bridges so that future Uniswap deployments on additional chains would take place with a number of bridge providers in the mix.
  • If implemented, the idea may cause the BNB Chain’s Uniswap deployment process to change directions even further.

According to a governance post published on February 6 by the project, Li.Fi has pleaded with the Uniswap community not to proceed with the present vote to authorize the deployment of Uniswap v3 on the BNB Chain with Wormhole as the sole bridge provider.

The team argued in favor of a deployment that was bridge-independent. Li.Fi requested Uniswap to give priority to developing a system for evaluating cross-chain bridges. Future Uniswap deployments on additional chains would be possible with this architecture and a variety of bridge vendors.

The creation of bridges, especially arbitrary messaging bridges (AMBs), is in its infancy. Wormhole, LayerZero, Celer, Axelar, and deBridge are undoubtedly workable cross-chain governance solutions in the short term and have gained a lot of traction in terms of volume at the liquidity layer and dApp development at the messaging layer. A protocol as large as Uniswap should not rely on only one cross-chain bridge. Li.Fi pointed out:

“No single AMB is tested enough to be considered a robust and secure solution that a project of Uniswap’s size can solely rely on at this point.”

Encrypted bridge aggregator Li.Fi suggested that Uniswap should develop a robust bridge evaluation framework as a generic governance model. It could then be promoted as an Ethereum-improved protocol, setting the standard for other blockchain applications using bridge providers.

If the proposal is accepted, the deployment of Uniswap on the BNB Chain may change even further. The procedure has passed through a number of hoops amidst heated community debate.
