Metaverse Division Of Microsoft Completely Removed With Declining Faith

In addition, HoloLens has also been scaled back after the departure of chief architect Alex Kipman. Microsoft hopes that HoloLens will be able to sign contracts with the US military, but the US Congress recently scaled back plans.
Microsoft fired the entire team behind the virtual reality office project this past week despite purchasing AltspaceVR in 2017. AltSpaceVR will thus permanently close its doors in March, ultimately eliminating Microsoft’s metaverse efforts along with it. AltSpaceVR is said to be replaced by Microsoft Mesh, although it’s unclear how serious Microsoft is about the so-called “metaverse” despite CEO Satya Nadella‘s buzzword-heavy talks on the subject at recent events.

The Mixed Reality Tool Kit (MRTK) from Microsoft is a cross-platform framework for spatial anchoring in virtual reality environments. With an emphasis on HoloLens, MRTK was designed to operate with Meta’s headsets and integrate with Unity VR.
Since the retirement of its principal architect Alex Kipman in recent years, HoloLens has already seen certain reductions. Due to alleged issues with the program, the US Congress recently pulled back a contract that Microsoft had been negotiating with the U.S. military for HoloLens.
Many people think the metaverse is the next great thing in human-computer interaction, but even Facebook, which changed the name of its whole company to Meta in support of this technology, is cutting back on its investments in this field by laying off 11,000 employees in November.
Microsoft may no longer believe in virtual reality if they fire the whole team behind MRTK, which was scheduled to deliver a new version just next month.
