The tweets discussed a fake event that Musk’s businesses allegedly hosted (Twitter and Tesla). A “special giveaway for all our followers and the crypto community” was being promoted. Free Dogecoin (DOGE), Bitcoin (BTC), and Ethereum were promised to users (ETH).

On Christmas Day, the hack happened at about 7:30 p.m. Tweets were posted for more than 12 hours before being removed. This is not the first time something similar has happened; in July, hackers commandeered the British army’s Twitter and YouTube accounts to advertise phony cryptocurrency giveaways.

While Gillian Keegan’s page still describes her as MP for Chichester and secretary of state for education and has retained its banner image showcasing some local constituency work, it has otherwise descended into chaos.
