Huobi Warns A New Type Of Same-End Address Fraud

Huobi Warns A New Type Of Same-End Address Fraud

There are 3 steps in the fraud process. Firstly, the scammers find and monitor users who often have large transfers and relatively fixed receiving addresses on the blockchain, followed by an address generator to generate addresses with highly similar addresses. Thirdly, there would be multiple transfers of small amounts to the user’s wallet address, which helps the scammer’s disguised phishing address appear in the user’s transaction records.

The arrival of this fraud is caused by the habit of most people that directly using the transfer records and only looking at the few characters after receiving assets.

Huobi suggests users do not simply paste the previous transaction record address when withdrawing coins but must confirm the address repeatedly, that is, check whether the overall address is correct. Once the withdrawal is completed, the digital assets will be owned by the address of the other party.

Even though the hacker’s technique is very simple, many individuals fall for it. According to the report, more than 370,000 addresses a total of 92 victim addresses had been poisoned as of December 2, which means more than 1.64 million USD had been taken.
