Kyle Roche Has Formed His Own Law Firm After The Scandal Involving Ava Labs
Kyle Roche, the lawyer at the center of an unusual hidden camera scandal, has established his own law office after leaving the firm he co-founded.
According to a notice of change filed in the Celsius bankruptcy, Roche now has his own practice after leaving the high-profile crypto class action company he co-founded, Roche Freedman. In that bankruptcy, he will continue to represent clients.
Kyle Roche and his previous firm, now known as Freedman Normand Friedland LLP, split ways last week following an incident in which the firm was removed as temporary class counsel in one of its most high-profile cases.
Last month, the mysterious website Crypto Leaks revealed a series of videos in which Roche appeared to discuss an unethical connection with blockchain development startup Ava Labs.
The tape, which Kyle Roche said was extensively manipulated, taken out of context, and shot without his authorization while he was inebriated, led to the conclusion that Roche had filed claims on behalf of Ava Labs and used the discovery process to benefit the business in other class actions. Both Roche Freedman and Ava Labs have categorically refuted these allegations.
Following the disclosure of the tapes, Kyle Roche tried to withdraw from the class action litigation he was leading. Defendants in the Tether class action, which seeks to hold exchanges accountable for an alleged market manipulation scheme that they claim duped investors of $1.4 trillion, have requested that Roche Freedman be removed as interim class counsel in the case.
Roche Freedman resisted such efforts, claiming that they essentially cut Roche off from the class action group and lost any financial interests in the cases he had oversaw, but were nevertheless replaced by the two surviving class companies.
As a result of Kyle Roche’s departure, the business will now be called Freedman Normand Friedland LLP, after the firm’s two partners, Edward Normand and Amos Friedland.
