El Salvador Organizes Conference On Bitcoin Adoption As Part Of Its Push For Financial Freedom

El Salvador, the first country in the world to adopt bitcoin as legal tender, is hosting an Adopting Bitcoin conference which will see more than 110 speakers from over 30 countries gather to discuss financial inclusion, per a press release.

The charitable event is being organized by Galoy Inc., the organization that created the Bitcoin Beach Wallet, and Bitfinex will be the main sponsor. Tickets for the occasion, which runs from November 15–17, are slashed to $21 for residents of El Salvador.

“El Salvador is now making strides to become the Singapore of Central America and a beacon for financial inclusion, while bitcoin is proving itself as an excellent medium of exchange that can facilitate millions of daily transactions” said Nicolas Burtey, CEO of Galoy, per the release.

Speakers will discuss the most recent advancements in technology and economics in the Bitcoin ecosystem throughout the first two days of the conference at the Crowne Plaza convention center.

Bitcoin Core engineer who recently earned a $50,000 award – El Salvador

One of the conference’s important technology presentations will be given by Jon Atak, a Bitcoin Core engineer who recently earned a $50,000 award from the Human Rights Foundation.

Additionally, the most well-known speaker focusing on the economic topics will be Mexican Senator Indira Kempis. Kempis has previously garnered media attention for her advocacy of central bank digital currencies as well as her efforts to make bitcoin legal tender in Mexico.

The third day of the event will see the attendees travel to Bitcoin Beach, in El Zonte, to see where the adoption of bitcoin in the country started.

“After less than one year, we are seeing one in five people use bitcoin daily,” said Mike Peterson, director of Bitcoin Beach. “Now delegations of representatives, bankers and technologists from all corners of the world are coming to El Salvador to learn how bitcoin can be used as a tool for financial inclusion.”
