Blockchain at Layer 1 Tezos launched the Kathmandu update, which added additional scaling capabilities.
According to the Tezos team, the Kathmandu update went live on the proof-of-stake mainnet at block 2,736,129 on Friday at 8:30 a.m. UTC.
The 11th upgrade since its start in 2018, and offers possible scalability improvements.
According to the formal proposal for the update, it has introduced the possibility to allow off-chain computing through Layer 2 solutions like as optimistic roll-ups, as well as optimized the block validation process for improved transactional performance.
In addition, the authors stated that Kathmandu developed a persistent testnet for testing with new features, increased randomization in how the mainnet selects delegates for greater security, and made other protocol enhancements.
Tezos contributors and development businesses Nomadic Labs, Marigold, TriliTech, Oxhead Alpha, Tarides, DaiLambda, and Functori & Tweag suggested Kathmandu in July. The community later accepted it through an on-chain governance mechanism.
