GoDaddy Accused Of Selling eth.link Affiliate Rights To Another Party

True Names filed a lawsuit, claiming that GoDaddy misrepresented the expired eth.link domain and that it was sold to a third party.

The lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Arizona on September 5. The eth.link was registered with GoDaddy in 2018 by Virgil Griffith. Griffith worked for True Names in the past, and the company has been using it since.

Due to Griffin’s incarceration, the corporation failed to renew the domain ownership by July 2022 as required. He was incarcerated for 63 months for allegedly helping North Korea avoid sanctions. Griffin has already attended a crypto conference there. But True Names insists that they used the easyDNS service to re-register.

The lawsuit also claims that GoDaddy sold it to a different buyer without informing the plaintiffs or responding to their repeated requests for contact.

Dynadot, who originally purchased the domain, later sold it to Manifold Finance for $852,000 at an auction. Manifold Finance now owns it.

“We are disappointed to see the acts of GoDaddy, and feel misled due to being told that the domain would be returned to the registry, only to find out it was purportedly sold to another domain provider before we had the chance to claim it.”

True Names, whose interests are protected by Crowell & Moring LLP, has added Dynadot and Manifold Finance to the list of defendants in the complaint.

True Names has been conducting business under the eth.limo domain.
