Animoca Brands and its subsidiary, Lympo, announced today, August 15, that they are working on a chess-inspired blockchain game called ‘Anichess’ with Play Magnus Group (PMG), a global leader in the chess industry founded by Magnus Carlsen, a Norwegian chess Grandmaster and five-time World Chess Champion.
According to an Animoca Brands press release on August 15, Anichess is a blockchain-based chess game with a play-and-earn environment that, when it opens in 2023, will connect the worlds of chess and GameFi to produce a vibrant gaming experience. Given their experience with GameFi and non-fungible tokens (NFTs), Lympo will also create and launch Anichess.
Furthermore, Lympo’s partnership with Play Magnus Group gives them access to more than 30 Chess Grandmasters, including Magnus Carlsen, Jan-Krzysztof Duda, Liem Le, and others who can offer their advice, follows the development, and takes Anichess through its paces as an immersive gaming experience for professional and amateur chess players.
The new partnership will attract chess players to blockchain gaming and vice versa. At the same time, Play Magnus Group will send invitations to the best chess players in the world, asking for their support and advice on the Deploy chess engines in Anichess.
At the same time, Anichess will use Lympo’s $SPORT token as its primary utility cryptocurrency token, which will act as a gateway to the larger Lympo ecosystem, enhancing the playing experience and value of the game.
Co-founder and executive chairman of Animoca Brands, Yat Siu, stated:
“Chess has emerged as one of the fastest-growing esports. By partnering with Play Magnus Group to create Anichess we will create unparalleled experiences for chess players, casual gamers, and fans.”
Tadas Maurukas, CEO and co-founder of Lympo added:
“The concept of Anichess will amplify the traditional chess experience with a new phenomenal strategic layer that will produce situations never seen before. Well-established game designers, super chess grandmasters, esports stars, and casual gamers are working together to deliver an action-packed blockchain chess experience.”
