FC Barcelona’s First NFT On Sale For $693,000

Barcelona’s ‘In a Way, Immortal’ non-fungible token, which is the first NFT in the club’s history and celebrates Johan Cruyff, sold for $693,000 at an auction at Sotheby’s in New York on July 29th.

FC Barcelona’s NFT worth $693,000

On the evening of July 29, FC Barcelona held its first official NFT auction. Barcelona’s “In a Way, Immortal” non-fungible token, which was the first NFT in club history and celebrates Johan Cruyff, sold for $693,000 in an auction at Sotheby’s in New York.

NFT audiovisual digital art aesthetically recreates the goal of Cruyff, who later became the club’s coach, against Atletico Madrid in 1973.

‘In a Way, Immortal’ recounts Cruyff’s goal in a molten gold cartoon created by a team of 40 powerful computer graphics and visual effects artists working in Hollywood.

The 40-second clip features original soundtracks by a 30-player orchestra, incorporating real sounds from the Camp Nou stadium and Barca fans.

The auction was organized by Sotheby’s, a reputable auctioneer that in the past time has also been actively participating in the NFT segment with the establishment of Sotheby’s Metaverse unit.

In addition to non-fungible token ownership, the auction winner will also be named a digital ambassador at the Catalan club and enjoy other perks, including access to training sessions.

“The Barca digital ambassador will also be able to enjoy a number of ‘money can’t buy’ experiences,”
