Axie Infinity Version “Play-To-Earn” Is Death

Sky Mavis, the publisher of the Axie family title, has published a closing announcement “play-to-earn” to focus its efforts on the “free-to-play” version

According to Sky Mavis’s plans, Axie Infinity’s “play-to-earn” version, called Axie Infinity Classic, or Axie Infinity v2, will be closed after the 21st season – which ended on June 24. After that, it will only focus on the “free-to-play” version, i.e., Axie Infinity: Origin.

Axie Origin vesion is the big step for the Sky Mavis game publisher in 2022, especially in light of the deep decline in player numbers since its heyday. Specifically, Axie Infinity’s current daily number of players is only 10,000, far too small for the more than 1 million active players per day in mid-2021.

Axie Infinity: Origin – what’s the difference?

Origin version will be different from the classic version in that players will not have to buy axies to start the game, but instead will start the game with a first free axie team. In other words, players can begin entering the world of Axie Infinity without having to spend money in the first place and also without having to associate with Ronin’s wallet.

At the beginning of this year, Origin version was developed to exist alongside the classic – i.e., the current “play-to-earn” version. Commenting on CoinDesk then, the development team expected that the “free-to-play” version would help them attract more players to the “play-to-earn” version.

However, the plan seems to have been changed when the Axie Origin version officially became Sky Mavis’s “nugget,” and its predecessor “play-to-earn” formally closed after 21 seasons of existence.
